Escape plan

Saw this very peculiar sight while passing through DIY in Ali Mall.

I'm not sure if a kid left it there, or if it fell when one of the staff was restocking, but it sure looks like the toy dinosaur is hatching an escape plan.

There's a story in this somewhere.

I'm from advertising.

Thus, I should be aware that posts like this are just a ploy for thumb-stopping and engagement.

Despite that, here I am, still playing and trying to catch the photo within the outline.

(In fairness, was able to do this on the 1st try.)

Being witty is chicken

Trust Pinoys to be clever and witty when it comes to product names.

Case in point...

Everyone knows KFC is famous for chicken, so this snack aped KFC's name to sell their chicken flavoured snack.

Admittedly, that name is what attracted me to this product. 

When misspellings are sweet

Yes, the difference a letter makes.

They might not have the spelling correct, but the recipe is on-point. 

I'll try this one of these days.

The Difference of a D

Yet another example of how 1 letter can make a world of difference.

Instead of being a sign that tells you the establishment is closed, it now looks like an apology to a person who doesn't want you to be close to them.

That's so False!

Here's yet another example of how quality seems to have flown out the window.

They used false copy as stand-in for this video. And they didn't replace or remove it.

Gosh! Back when my advertising career began, this would've been a huge no-no. But these days, people with just shrug it off and say: "that video won't last long anyway."

Proofreader - and higher standards - please.

Delightful Decades

During yesterday's GA for the CommSoc, they asked the students to come in outfits from different decades.

Most of the students came in 80s garbs, followed by the 90s and 00s. Some came in as far as the 20s, and 60s, but the most popular decade was probably the 80s. 

One student came as Cyndi Lauper and she got the look down pat.

The funny thing was the fact that the students called them "fashion flashbacks," while in my case, these are outfits I've seen and lived through. 

Yup, I'm old.

There are a lot of words that sound the same when spoken, but very different when spelled. This often causes confusion, especially when it's time to write down the word,

Here's a good example:

It's obvious that they meant "racerback."

This has to be - hands down - the most confusing discount I've seen so far.

Makes me wonder if there's someone clueless enough to buy this.

This might be an honest mistake.

That would best describe this Safeguard soap.

What's happening here? Was it trying to escape? Are people filching hand soaps?

Whatever the reason was, it's safe to say that this made me chuckle today.

Amusing Museums

Jeju is rife with museums.

Mark and I were joking that in Jeju, there's a museum for everything.

And that joke was not just half-meant, it was meant-meant.

Or it looks like they kidnapped Safeguard and is holding him against his will.

So many ideas with just one photo.

I guess this is what they mean when they say "a picture is worth a thousand words."

They say that the Japanese language uses a lot of letter "r"s, especially when they speak English.

Guess they're taking that too seriously.

Saw this at Shisui and couldn't help but chuckle.

I'd ask for a proofreader, but this isn't their native tongue, so it's okay.

City of confusion

Had to go back and look at this frame from an online video that passed through my feed.

Had to look at it again, then screenshot it just to be sure.

After much examination, my hunch is correct. The city that they identified as "Bangkok" is actually Hong Kong! Having lived there for 4 years, those neon signs jutting out from office buildings are quintessential HKG.

The editor must've been confused.

No(kia) kidding

After seeing this New Year greeting, it was clear that this had to be the one I'll be sending out to my friends.

For those who know Nokia and was part of that generation, this was the exact same way we'd send out our New Year greetings.

Those days were fun.

Found in Translation

Here's an example when you ask AI or a computer program to translate text from one language to another.

Reading it, you know what the essence is. But the way it was translated to Tagalog was so mechanical and artificial. You look at it and think: "heck, no one talks this way."

Really, nothing compares to the human touch.
