FMM: Counting on each other

Another thing that's very important these days is having someone to count on. Sometimes, the days can be trying and you can easily get weary. And during those times, it helps to have someone you can count on - family, friends, faith, even complete strangers, at times.

That's one of the things that this situation has taught us. That we can count on people, and people can count on us. In may be things that are small or mundane, but what's important is knowing that someone has your back, and there's someone you can count on.

This leads me to this Friday Magic Madness song from the 90s - a classic, feel-good ditty from the combined powerhouse voices of Whitney Houston and Cece Winans.

Yes, let's thank the people we can count on. And let us be someone that other people can count on, too.

And that problem is Houston. Whitney Houston.

It's been 7 years since she's passed. Yes, she lives through her music, which is still very much played, heard and performed. But as much as these performers give justice to her songs - Hello, Glennis Grace - still nothing compares to the original.

Now that we're getting all emotional about Whitney, I think it's time to get "So Emotional" this Friday Magic Madness day.



Yes, Whitney, we still get so emotional when we think of you.

The Grace of Whitney

For more than 6 months, I've been seeing this video recommendation on youtube. The title of the video is "Insane!!! This Girl is Whitney Reborn," and the visual is that of a woman in a fully beaded gown in a concert.

I've never had the motivation to click it, mainly because Whitney is Whitney.

Then, I came across this audition video from the on-going season of America's Got Talent.



Gosh! She sounds so much like Whitney Houston. And her rendition of "Run to you" is on-point.

Her name is Glennis Grace, and it turns out that she's the same woman who was in that "Girl is Whitney Reborn," video.



That voice! She could be Whitney Houston's voice double!

But I think Mel B. put it perfectly when she said: "You sound like Whitney, but I want to see you put a bit of you." I think that's what's going to make Glennis Grace a star!

I'm getting an 80s vibe today, so I thought of putting on some vintage Whitney Houston for today's Friday Magic Madness.



This is how I'll always remember her. Fun, energetic, upbeat and with powerful vocals.

The frizzy hair, maybe now. Hahaha.

Mall at once...

I pass by 4 malls on my way home: Glorietta, Farmer's Plaza, Gateway and Ali Mall. These malls are all connected to the MRT which I take from Makati to Cubao.

These 4 malls are very different: in architecture, tenant mix, look and even its target market. But today, as I passed through these 4 malls, they all has one thing in common.

They were playing Whitney Houston songs in the background.

I think this is their way of saying that they'll always love Whitney Houston.

Voice of an angel

We were on our way to Royal Subic Duty Free when Bonique broke the news that Whitney Houston just passed away. Our first reaction in the car was: "Are you serious?"

For kids of the 80s and 90s, Whitney Houston was an icon. She was called "The Voice," and for good reason. She had a tender but powerful voice, and her songs resonated with everyone who listened to it. Her songs of love, heartbreak, inspiration, and yes, her dance ditties, were loved and sung along with by millions of people around the world. I don't know anyone who doesn't know "Where do broken hearts go," who hasn't danced to "I wanna dance with somebody," watched "The Bodyguard" and sang along with "And I will always love you," and marveled at the vocal powerhouse of "When you believe."

With Whitney's passing - much like Michael Jackson's - there will be a lot of speculation, questions and speculation. But while there might be a lot of doubts in the air, there's one thing that's certain. The world will be a bit more silent now that we've lost one of the greatest voices of our generation.



Vaya con Dios, Whitney Houston. And I'm sure the heavens will be waiting for your duet with Michael Jackson.
