Wicked Performance

Literally and figuratively.

This medley of songs from "Wizard of Oz" and "Wicked" brought back so many feels.

"Home," originally sung by Diana Ross is one of my faves and most replayed songs.  "Unlimited" is one of the anchor songs of the musical, and was beautifully done here.

If they also sang "For Good," this would have been out-of-this-world!

The Proper word

I was today years old when I realised that this was the correct line from the wickedly popular song from "Wicked."

All this time, I thought it was "With the proper poise..."

Let me file this under "misheard lyrics" now.

This way comes

This just might be the reason for Mark and me to go back to the cinemas.

We watched the play way back in 2014 and was thrilled. 

Now, a decade after, it's time to see whether something Wicked this way really comes.

Wickedly Good

Seeing the new trailer for "Wicked" is making me excited for the actual film.

We've seen the musical, and it looks like the film will be as good.

Wicked Ways

I'm super stoked and psyched for the live action version of "Wicked."

This is one of my fave musicals. Mark and I even watched the musical in 2014. Whoa! It's been 10 years!

We'll make it a point to watch the film version as well.

I do believe in Idina!

Still on a "Wicked" high, one of my favorite awards show moments is when Idina Menzel won the Tony's in 2004.



Her speech was so pure and heartfelt, and every word radiated with sincerity and joy.

As Idina herself said, "the green girl has a heart." And she gave that to her, beautifully.

Onions, onions everywhere!

"For Good," is hands down my favorite song from the musical "Wicked." The lyrics are so heartfelt, and the original rendition of Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel really pulls the heartstrings hard!

Full disclosure, "For Good" is one of my ugly cry songs. Sometimes, I'd watch the original rendition of the song on youtube, and in rare instances, I'd end up with my face all crumpled and tears running down relentlessly.

So imagine my feeling when I saw this video from "A Very Wicked Halloween."

Not only does it feature the original Elphaba and Glinda, they've assembled different actresses who played the role in different times on different stages.

Gosh! At 2:44, when Idina and Kristin sing their solos and the rest of the cast sung chorus - bawl-o-rama!

It's like someone chopped open a gazillion onions in my vicinity. 

No, really. I'm not crying. It's just there are onions being chopped.

Goodness!

No matter how many times I hear it, I'll never, ever, ever, ever tire of listening to the song "For Good" from the musical "Wicked."

Much more so if it's the original Glinda and Elphaba singing it.



True to its lyrics, this song has really changed me for good.

Gravitating towards this song

It's been 4 days since we watched "Wicked," and until now, we find ourselves subconsciously singing songs from the musical. First, it was just Mark, and now, I'm also breaking into song. Particularly this song:

Wicked Weekend!

After much anticipation, we finally watched the first weekend run of Wicked last night. And what a night it was. I've never felt so much excited energy in one big place! The entire main theater of CCP was just brimming with excitement - from the lobby, all the way to the theater.

As expected, the theater was packed to the rafters. From Wicked newbies to hard-core fans, they were all there. When they dimmed the lights to signal the start of the play, there was a collective gasp from the audience. Then, from the first song to the finale, the audience - including Mark and myself - were very singing along, laughing heartily, and shedding a tear. That was how powerful their performances were.

Props goes to the cast who really pulled out all the stops to bring the characters alive. Much more so for Elphaba and Glinda since they had huge shoes to fill. (For most of us, Elphaba is Idina Menzel and Glinda is Kristin Chenoweth.) But judging by the standing ovation, they did a wicked job of bringing alive the lead characters.

It's been a while since I last saw a stage play, and I'm glad that we watched Wicked tonight. Not only did it rekindle my love for Wicked, but for watching theater as well. I told Mark that we should watch Wicked again in Tokyo.

We were so into Wicked, we immediately trooped to the souvenir stand to get a program and keychains. After little prodding, Mark also bought the CD, which I'm sure will be in our playlist and on repeat.

Wicked is such a hit in Manila that they extended the run, and still, tickets have run out. That should be a sign that they should extend it a few weeks more.

Everyone should have this Wicked experience!

It's the first weekend run of Wicked, and we're watching it later tonight! Woot!
