Awesome music knows no generation. That's a fact.

Here's even more proof to that.

Gloria Gaynor is a disco icon way back in the 70s. Heck, everyone danced to "I Will Survive" and "Never Can Say Goodbye."

Kylie Minogue is a disco icon from the late 80s until now. Heck, everyone danced to "I Should be so Lucky" and "Can't Get You Out of My Head."

And these 2 disco icons broke their generational barriers and dropped this collaboration.

Gosh! They both look and sound ageless. Which is what real music queens are like. Being a fan of both these artists, watching this song is 2 times the thrill!

Looks like there's going to be a new disco LSS in my mind starting today.

Play Time

One of my favourite J. Lo songs is a song that wasn't a huge hit. Well. compared to her mega-hits like "Love don't cost a thing," "Jenny from the Block," "Waiting for Tonight," among others, this song was pretty low-key and didn't enjoy as much airtime as I hoped it would.

"Play" is one of those songs that I can listen to 20 times in a row and wouldn't get tired of it. Maybe it's the soothing electronica undertones, or that beat that makes you want to bob your head while listening to it. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but hey, there are some things you can't explain.

In the meantime, in the words of this song: "Let me hear it one more time!"

Pretty. Bad.

Two of my favorite singers just dropped their new singles. And now I find myself shuttling between two songs on youtube.

First is "Pretty Girls." The newest collaboration between Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea.



I'm loving the 80s references in this music video.

Second is Taylor Swift's much ballyhooed "Bad Blood."



The song is very catchy, and the woman empowerment theme of the video is good. My only beef with this is that it looks like a mash-up between "Toxic" and "Womanizer" - both videos of Britney that's directed by Joseph Kahn. (Who directed this video.)

Now I don't just have an LSS, I have two LSSes!

I really, really, really, really, really like it!

Carly Rae Jepsen's newest single might not have gained the same on-line traction as "Call Me Maybe," but I must say, after hearing this song a few times, I really, really, really, really, really, really like it!

My guilty pleasure last week was listening to this very catchy, very juvenile, and very not-me song.

If you thought the fact that I like listening to Taylor Swift was bad, now I'm listening to Ariana Grande!



Gosh, I need to break free from this LSS. Harhar.

Feeling up while going down

During last night's Easter Vigil mass in the Franciscan Chapel, there was one song that made such a strong impact on me.

It was a song that I heard for the very first time, and the woman who sang it did such a spectacular job. She wasn't just singing, she was telling a story using her voice. The lyrics alone were powerful, but the way she sang it was equally strong. As I told Mark, "she went all Aretha Franklin on us, and I like it."

The song is "Go down, Moses," and it was such an uplifting song. Mark and I were still singing it on the train ride going home.

Yes, this is going to be my Holy Week LSS. And it might even go beyond Holy Week.

More bang-bang for your buck

I'm usually late when it comes to this generation's pop songs. More often than not, I only get the hang of it a few months after it started playing.

Case in point, my current LSS is "Bang Bang" by Jessie J., Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande. It's a song that's more than 4 months old, and I'm sure the kids have outgrown this song already. But I'm just getting the hang of it right now.



Yup, this is my new LSS.

LSS: Lovin' Swift Syndrome

Some folks think that Taylor Swift shouldn't move too far away from her country roots. But after hearing "Shake it off," I'm glad that she did.



This song is everything! Catchy, happy, easy-to-groove-to, makes-you-want-to-stand-up-and-dance, and most importantly, LSS-inducing.

The last one is particularly true since I've been listening to this song - non-stop - the whole day! In fact, it's my anthem as I wrapped my first batch of Christmas gifts today.

Looks like I'm not going to shake off this song anytime soon.

FMM: A song from Sonia

In the last 80s and early 90s, there was a British invasion in the international airwaves. What used to be dominated by American artists was now infiltrated by British singers.

I had a lot of favorites from U.K., and one of them was a petite singer who never failed to come up with upbeat, dance worthy and LSS inducing songs.

Her name is Sonia, and here's one of her most famous songs which happens to be my favorite.



As her song so aptly says, you'll never stop me from loving this song.

Gravitating towards this song

It's been 4 days since we watched "Wicked," and until now, we find ourselves subconsciously singing songs from the musical. First, it was just Mark, and now, I'm also breaking into song. Particularly this song:



It's official, this is an LSS.

FMM: Unstoppable

One of the biggest and most memorable films of the 80s in "Mannequin."

That time, the concept was very novel - a mannequin coming to life when the mall closes, and a guy who got trapped in the mall meet her and falls in love with her.

Aside from the concept, there were other factors that contributed to the film's memorability. There's Kim Catrall - pre SATC and menopause, and there's the theme song:



"Nothing's gonna stop us now," became almost as big as the film.

Well, the song is so catchy, so I'm not surprised.

FMM: All for Janet

Because of this Janet Jackson surprise video that I wrote about a few weeks ago, the song "All for you," has been playing in my head almost everyday. Yes, it has become a full blown LSS.

Since today's a Friday, I'm going to go all out at declare it today's Friday Magic Madness song!

For no apparent reason, the Spice Girls popped in my head, and I had the urge to listen to "Stop."



Yes, it's a Spice Girl moment.

Talk about belated appreciation.

This song was released in 2011, and I've been hearing it occasionally since it went on air 2 years ago. It was just last week when I realized what an awesome song this is. The infectious melody, the nice beat, and the warm, awww-shucks message that the lyrics convey - it's the perfect combination for an LSS.

Yes, 2 years after its release, "Love on Top" is now on my top-of-mind awareness list.

FMM: Q-tie pie

Sometimes, it's great to just listen to trashy pop songs on Friday. The type of trashy pop songs that are infectious, latch themselves on to your head, and keeps on playing on and on in your mind.

Trashy pop songs that have no rhyme or reason, they're just cute to listen to.

Just like Stacey-Q's "Two of Hearts."



Yes, this is my type of Friday music.

Go, go, Gomez

Call it my "second puberty stage," but I've found myself recently hooked to Selena Gomez's music. Particularly, her earlier songs which are so, SO bubblegum pop.



I've been watching this video over and over again, to the chagrin of the people in the shoot who have to listen to it along with me.

But what can I say? This song is worth repeating - repea-pea-pea-peating.

FMM: Shake it!

Someone played a Debbie Gibson song this morning, now it's been playing in my head the entire day!



Well, if you can't shake it off, just sing with it!

When Holly met Bolly

Since I'm in a Bollywood mood, I remembered a film that I used to watch a lot of when I was still living in HKG. (I had a DVD of it at home.) 

It's entitled "The Guru" and featured Heather Graham and Jimi Mistry. And the Indian song and Grease mash-up has got to be one of my favorite scenes in the entire film.



I can feel an LSS coming on.

Stuck in this Direction

Shash's daughters - one of whom is my goddaughter - are very much into One Direction. Honestly, if it weren't for these girls, as well as those huge Penshoppe billboards - I wouldn't know what One Direction is. This is a clear indication of what an old fogey I've become.

Needless to say, I wanted to get them One Direction items for Christmas. And to do that more effectively, I had to research on the group. This led me to more than a hundred fan sites, and a countless fan made youtube videos.

That's where I found out that they were the kids responsible for this song:

I've heard of this song before and found it catchy. I'd go far as saying that I like this song. Like it so much, in fact, that it's now stuck in my head as my LSS. Yes, a syrupy pop song by pre-pubescents is currently on replay in my brain. And it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

Maybe i'm not such an old fogey after all.
