The classic and iconic Disney animated film, "The Little Mermaid" had a lot of memorable songs that are embedded in the minds of generations of fans. The film is already 34 years old, but people - including myself - sing the songs as if it were just shown yesterday.
With that in mind, you would think that the people at large would know the songs by heart.
But apparently, this writer doesn't.
The song is "Poor Unfortunate Souls," sung hauntingly and cheekily by Ursula. So, I don't know where this writer's title came from.
After much anticipation, they're finally releasing the trailer of the live action version of Disney's "The Little Mermaid."
As a major fan of the 1989 animated film, and having watched it over and over and over and over again, I'm excited for this film. I'm hoping that they'll be faithful to the original version, much like "Beauty and the Beast."
Once this comes out in cinemas, expect me to be part of that world that will watch it!
If the pandemic and community quarantines didn't happen, they would have shown Disney's live action version of "Mulan" already. And chances are, Mark and I would have already watched it.
Unfortunately, like most films, the showing has been pushed back until things go back to the "normal-normal" and theatres can open and accommodate people again.
Who knows? Maybe like Aquaman, we'll get to watch this the next time we travel to the U.S.
Traveling abroad, and watching this Mulan film, gosh, I miss both.
Sometimes, Disney comes up with the most strangely entertaining film plots and premises.
And I'm actually on board with these films, especially if they have an element of fantasy, sci-fi or heroism in them.
Sometimes, the films can come across as slightly campy, especially with how they treat the villains, but hey, it's part of the film and ups the entertainment value. And because of that, I'm on board!
The "Witch Mountain" films were part of this genre and I thoroughly enjoyed. The first film "Escape to Witch Mountain" was shown when I was still a baby, but I remember watching it on VHS when I was in High School. The second film - a remake of sorts - "Return to Witch Mountain" was shown when I was already working, and of course, it was a film that was worth watching. Mainly because of my fascination with the first film.
While watching youtube, a trailer for a new Disney film popped up. After watching it, the feeling was similar to that thrill of watching "Witch Mountain." Yes, it has all the potential to be campy, it has a strange, underdog-ish, outcast-ish plot, but it definitely has a high chance of being entertaining.
With that, let me present the trailer for "Secret Society of Second Born Royals." (The title alone gives you an idea of how campy this can get.)
I've got a feeling this will be a bit "Sky High"-esque, with a smidge of Mission Impossible thrown in. Strange combination, yes, but you can't knock it until you've seen it, right?
One of my favorite Disney animated films is "Aladdin." In fact, I had a VHS tape (VHS? Look it up, kids!) of that film bought in the U.S. so I could watch it over and over and over again.
Despite the fact that I've seen it so many times, I would still laugh at the same parts, sing the same songs, laugh at the same jokes, and feel the same thrill in the end.
This love for the animated film makes me feel quite odd that I never got to watch its live action version. I don't know why I never got around to watching it, but I never did. Curious.
Seeing this clip, the "Prince Ali" song, made me even more curious about the film. And yes, Will Smith is the genie in this film, and Will Smith was the lead in "The Prince of Bel Air." A Prince singing about a Prince? Interesting...
Maybe I should look for it and watch it while we're still stuck at home.
The live action "Lion King" film is finally opening tomorrow!
There's always a danger in remaking or redoing a film that's so iconic and has been part of your childhood. It can either leave you in awe, or disappointed.
So, to watch or not to watch, that is the question.

I'm not familiar with the story or the narrative basis of the film, but judging by the trailer, I'm definitely going to watch out for this.
Aside from the fact that it's Disney, it's also an eye candy! There's a lot of mysticism and magic - which I love! Plus, you can't ignore the powerhouse cast. (Hello Oprah!)

The final official trailer for "Beauty and the Beast" is finally here. And I join the legion of fans of the original animated movie in rolling on the floor in excitement.
It took me a few minutes to really pick my jaw off the ground after seeing the trailer of the live action version of "Beauty and the Beast."
After I picked my jaw off the ground, there were tears welling in my eyes. So this is how it feels when your favorite animated film comes to life. Beautiful, vivid and breathtaking life.
I'm a huge, huge, huge fan of the Disney animated film. I saw the original one on the big screen, then bought the VHS (look it up, kids), then bought the CD and DVD. Now, I can't wait for the live action retelling this 2017.
As expected, people are crowding flower shops, bakeshops and candy stores. When I passed by SM Megamall for lunch, it was easy to see how brisk business was for Holland Tulips and other shops in the vicinity.
Since we're on the subject of love, here's a Valentine's-appropriate-rave.
I'm SO loving Disney's "Paperman."
"Paperman" is an animated short film about two strangers who had a chance encounter on a train station -- all thanks to a piece of paper. What follows is a light, dramatic and comedic narrative which had me enthralled from start to finish.
As the animated short came to an end, there was a well-spring of feel-good-feelings. The same feeling I get after watching an awesome rom-com.
This film is so wonderfully and beautifully done, I'm not surprised that it received an Oscar Nomination for Best Animated Short.
I'm sure the Oscar voters will love this film as much as I did.
Recently, Barneys New York got into a little fashion fracas when it launched their holiday ads which featured "model-lified" Disney characters. They made over some of our favorite Disney characters and changed their proportions from cartoonish to chic.
A lot of people were up in arms saying that it was a travesty to turn these icons of childhood into these unreal and unreachable characters. It's not as if we don't have enough dysmorphic problems with adults, and now they're going to affect kids as well.
Some fashion insiders went on the defense saying: "fashion is fantasy, and this is just a fantasy in the minds of the Disney characters." I totally agree with them. Fashion is supposed to have a touch of fantasy and whimsy. Disney is all about fantasy and whimsy. So, why can't we combine these two together.
After seeing the promotional video of Barneys New York which features this concept, it's obvious that these two can blend together seamlessly.
See, it isn't as bad as people thought it would be. And again, it's just fantasy! Who wouldn't be thrilled to see Minnie Mouse in Lanvin and Daisy Duck in D&G.
Disney and fashion are two of the most magical things in this world. It was just a matter of time that they'd come together.
