Yesterday, Mother and I found ourselves in Bridgetowne for the usual "pagpag."

While we've both been to Opus, this is the first time we were in the back part of that township. And it turned out to be a really nice place.

There were wide spaces, sports facilities, modern looking buildings, and, of course, the statue of "The Victor."

We both agreed that this place had that SG vibe, and it would be great if they could maintain it.

They'd score a victory if they're able to do that.

LFLTAT: Rocking it!

For this year's first LFLTAT, here's an ensemble that I've put together for Mother Lyli.

Being one of the original fashionistas in DY&R-A, she's always been partial to interesting outfits. She's also into jeans. So, this look is right up her alley.

The jeans are the classic wide-legged jeans in dark denim, bought at Penshoppe. And the top is a rocker-chick chic top with a mesh overlay and a rock-band graphic, snagged at The SM Store.

Happy moments

It took years and several plans before this get together pushed through.

It was worth it!

Happy, Lyli and I were teammates at DY&R-Alcantara, and we were also lunch mates, merienda mates, and we'd often hang out during shoots.

Even if we're with different agencies now, we still make it a point to get together and catch up, just like old times.

And it's great that even if years have passed, a lot of things haven't changed.

Sketchy Stories: I live for Olive, part 2

First, Lyli told me that Ed asked her to be their Ninang on their wedding day. Of course, she happily agreed. Now, she needed a gown for the wedding.

Second, she shared with me the colour motif, which was Olive Green. 

Third, she told me that she didn't want to look like a traditional "Ninang." She didn't want to wear something frilly or complex.

With those 3 things as backdrop, my mind started to conjure up possible designs for Lyli. Then, it occurred to me that there was a bag of Olive Green fabric in "the stash." Thankfully, it wasn't buried deep in "the stash," and was easily accessible.

The fabrics were lace and charmeuse. And with these 2 fabrics in hand, plus Lyli's non-negotiables, this was my sketch.

It's a two-piece ensemble consisting of a lace skirt and a flowy, asymmetric blouse. The back was floor length to create the illusion that she’s wearing a long gown from the back. This was her choice after showing her 3 possible options.

The designs and fabrics were then sent to Ofel, so she could do her magic.

When Lyli went for the fitting, she told me she was happy with the outcome. She even intimated that she was worried how the ensemble would look like, and if it would be faithful to the sketch. But after seeing the final dress, she lived for it!

Another point for olive! Woot!

Tuesday blues

We've been trying to schedule a lunch together for almost a year now. But it never materialized.

And today, we found out that we were all wearing blue. So, it was a sign for this lunch to happen.

Hopefully, we won't have to wait for another coordinated outfit to have that next lunch date.

Tagalog time

Lyli and I had lunch at Mang Inasal, and after placing our orders, we were given this contraption that's supposed to vibrate and light up once our food is ready.

After reading the Tagalog translation, I realized how funny and awkward it was. "Nanginig at kumutitap"? Really? Harhar.

Rafa birthday to you!

With a creative talent like Mother Lyli, it's no surprise that Rafa's 1st birthday is a fun event that's also a showcase of creativity. And in today's party, I'm gladly playing sidekick to these two heroes.

So pardon me while I take the Batmobile and head off to Racks.

Mother's Day

Had lunch with Mother, one of my few and very good friends from the industry. It's always a joy getting together with her since every moment is a riot. What I love about her is that she's brutally frank. She tells things as they are, and for a Filipino, that's very refreshing.

We're also both very much into jeans, that's why we get along very, very well. This lunch time, we planned to go to Singapore come June so we can check out their annual sale. The great thing about buying your clothes abroad is the fact that you won't have that "OMG we're wearing the same shirt/jeans/any other article of clothing" moment. I've had my share of that, and while it's amusing at times, the novelty wears off easily. It would be very interesting to see what clothes we'll buy.

It's just mid-May and i'm already looking forward to our June soujourn.
