Let this be our prayer

Nope, this isn't a post about that super popular song - "The Prayer."

But it's still about a prayer.

When we were kids, I'd often read the classified ads and look for the printed prayers. 

Seeing this reminded me of those times.

Nowadays, classified pages are a rarity, so venues for printing prayers like this are rare as well.

Hope they bring it back.

Book her!

It’s been a while since my last book purchase. For myself, at least.

Yes, i’ve been buying  books from Big Bad Wold the past years, but they’re mostly for gifts.

Looks like that’s about to change. Thanks to this book.

It’s no secret that I’m a Britney Spears fan. And as much as we all love her showniz persona, it would be interesting to k ow her story a bit deeper.

Hoping that Fully Booked will eventually carry this title. 

Putting the "read" in Bread

As a bread lover, and an avid reader, this book brings together those two aspects of my life in one:

It's a recipe book that was given to us by our client - Gardenia. It's a recipe book which shows a plethora of ways to use and prepare Gardenia bread. 

True to its title, this book really has unlimited ideas on how to transform Gardenia bread into culinary masterpieces.

I've already tried making some, and I can't wait to try these bread recipes at home.

Love-ly

Today’s Scripture reading is definitely one of my favorites.

Corinthians 13 is one of the most beautifully written, most heartwarming, most smile inducing, and most heartfelt readings in the Bible.

When I was organizing a lot of weddings, this was one of the favourite readings of couples and would request that it be read as the Gospel. They would often request this, and when the priest would oblige, the homily would be equally beautiful. No matter where the wedding was or who the priest was, each homily would be a joy to listen to.

This scripture reading never fails to uplift me. Which makes the last line even more relevant:

“Love never fails.”

Dior-ama!

In between reading books for school, I try to squeeze in some leisurely, social reading. And this week's book is a retrospective on the work of Christian Dior.

He was truly ahead of his time, and truly inspiring. In face, I'm inspired to do some sketching now.

Well, Hola there!

Mama Marna - Maricar's mother-in-law - is such a sweet lady.

She remembered that I can understand a bit of Spanish, so she sent me this:

It's a recent issue of Hola! And I've always equated this magazine with Spain. After all, my Tita has a lot of these in her house in Barcelona. Plus, my late Grandmother, Lola Dita, also read this magazine a lot.

The timing of this magazine is perfect. My cousins from Spain are arriving in a month's time, so I need to brush up on my Spanish.


Surprisingly, despite not having practiced for so many years, I still understand most of the headlines on the cover. Even more surprising, I read the first 2 articles from start to finish and understood them!

Let's see if it holds out until the inner pages.

Stylish September

Aside from food, the only other thing I bought in SG are magazines. Particularly, the September issues of some of my favorite titles.

As expected the September issue of Vogue is hefty and heavy. In fact, it was so heavy, I had to put in on the table to read it. Content-wise, it didn't disappoint. It was eye candy from the first page, and the feature on Grace Coddington was top notch.

And for InStyle, the big surprise of this issue is the fact that it's the last issue under it's Editorial Director, Ariel Foxman. He bid goodbye to the readers of InStyle in his Editor's letter, and it was bittersweet because I've grown accustomed to his sense of style and joie-de-vivre.

There's a long weekend coming up, and these two will definitely keep me busy then.

Sweet read

A good book is an essential item on my bedside table. It's what I do to wind down and fall asleep.

And here's the book I'm reading now.

I wouldn't be surprised if I have sweet dreams.

Following women

Whilst I write on my blog regularly, I can't say the same about my blog reading habits.

I'm not in the habit of reading or following a blog, and the last time I really did that was when Mark was in Japan and he'd chronicle his experiences inside the academic jail erstwhile known as IUJ.

But the past months, I've found myself constantly reading 3 blogs. They're very different in content, tone and personality. Even the age range and personalities of the writers are very disparate, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy reading them all at the same time.

Oh, there's one common thread among the 3 blogs, they're all written by women.



First is Paula Taylor's blog. I liked watching her during her stint as a VJ and during Amazing Race. And she's also one of the reasons my sister got hooked on Plains and Prints.



Second is the blog written by Daphne Osena - Paez. I'm a bit fan of architecture and houses, and I often watched Urban Zone when it was still shown at an earlier time slot. But since it's now shown a tad bit too late, I just read about the houses on her blog.

I like her writing style, too. It's very conversational and casual - almost like hearing her talk. And as my journalism professors always tell me, that's a hallmark of a good writer. Aside from that, I've always like Daphne, ever since I first worked with her on the Myra 300-E campaign a few years back.



Finally, for my fashion, music and art fix, I read Emily McEnroe's blog entitled "Magenta Lightning." I like how she writes, and her view of what's cool. She's the kind of girl you'd want to be around, which makes this blog a place that I'd like to hang around in.

Another good thing about these blogs is that it links to more interesting writers - both men and women. And I have a feeling that I'll be adding more blogs to my frequently visited sites soon.
