It’s no wonder I ordered it the moment I saw it.

That's why the moment my eyes met this beautiful toile du jouy print, I knew it was something worth buying.

The bonus part, the print was turned into a beautifully classic yet uniquely designed dress from Plains & Prints!

Make a note

Last year, while looking for a supplier for stickers, it led me to this page called Crafts & Ink. They had a lot of nice sticker designs, so I contacted them to check if they could do the design we had in mind.

It was a pleasant surprise when the owner contacted me because she turned out to be a former student of mine. This was her business, which made me even more confident to pass on our requirements to her.

Since then, I've been getting stickers from her regularly. Then, last week, I asked her if she also made notecards. Particularly, a design that's been in my file for months - a note card with toile du jouy border and a simple script monogram.

This is going to make writing notes a lot more fun!

Printed Matter: Toile, we meet again

The moment - as in the microsecond-that I saw this print, it was covet-it-at-first-sight!

Not only was it Toile du juoy, it was also in my favorite color - red. But wait, there’s more! It also,had bird prints which is always a plus.

Best part is, this print is the print of this pretty dress that’s perfect for summer.

No wonder it went from the screen to my cart in seconds!

Jouy-ful, Jouy-ful

Of course, the year 2020 can't wrap up without me showing my Christmas wrapping theme for the year. 

It was the first week of March - a week before ECQ was declared - when my eyes were drawn to this pair of wrappers at National Book Store superbranch.

What drew these to me is the "Toile du Juoy" feels that they give. Since my first encounter with this type of fabric in Paris when I was younger, I've been drawn to it. In fact, I paid good money to buy a few yards of Toile du Juoy fabric from a store near L' Tour Eiffel.

Luckily, they were well-stocked and this allowed me to get a lot of these wrappers. Enough to cover all my Christmas needs, and then some.

Aside from the pattern, the wrapper gained significance after the CQ period because it felt like life went back-to-basics. And it doesn't get more back-to-basics than black and white.

Once the wrapper was secured, it was time for the accoutrements. 

To add a hint of Christmas to the black and white wrapper, I chose the colour red for the ribbon. As an accent, both black and white ribbons were added, echoing the wrapper's hue. Of course, the personalized cards had to be there. Finally, since the wrapper had a pinecone print, it was an easy choice to make pinecones the accent to the whole thing.

Together, these elements created this Juoy-ful and timely Christmas gift-wrapping theme for 2020!

And as we wrap-up Christmas and get ready to welcome the New Year, let's all hope and pray for a Joyful 2021!

Prints Principle

The good thing about taking the MRT going home is I get to pass by Surplus Shop everyday. On good weeks, they've got troves and troves of great buys on display. There was a time when they had Express dresses and H&M shirts. And a few weeks ago, they had this pair of printed pants from J. Crew.

Prints are going to be big this season, although the prints are louder and more colorful. The prints on these pants are very classic and low key. Like this black damask print. I've always liked damask.


Then there's the blue toile de jouy. It's got this rich, French vibe to it that really catches the eye.



Because the pants are already printed, the trick here is to just add a solid top, and you've got an outfit with "oomph" without being too loud.



And that's how prints are done.
