Chatime takes its time

It's been about 20 minutes since my order. And my order is just large strawberry milk tea. But still, it isn't here.

Worse, they're not even making it yet.

There's one guy inside who's checking equipment, listing things, cleaning up - he looks like he's doing everything. Except making any of the tea orders that are already there. So, you have a couple of cups of tea waiting to be made, and no one making it!

Sometime soon, please, Chatime. Sometime soon.

Trap-eeek!

I don't know why, but traffic seems to have gone from worse to worst!

Last Thursday, it took us 1 hour and 10 minutes to go from Pasong Tamo to Ayala.

Tonight, it took my officemates almost 4 hours to get from Makati to Ortigas.

Someone should do something about this soon!

(This post reminds me of the documentary we did for our broadcasting class during my M.A. days. It was about traffic, and the title above was the title of our documentary.)

Finally, the thesis season is over!

But what happens next will be the grading and assessing if the defenses were valid. Add to that, there's the problem with the groups who received a "grade withheld" rating.

So, I think it's time to put this old Frank Stallone song on.

Pet peeve

Among the grammatical and spelling mistakes that I see in the newspapers, on the internet, and even on my students' papers, there's one that really gets my goat. It's a mistake that's committed again on this on-line article on spot.ph.

People, you say "sneak peek" and not "sneak peak." For the life of me, I don't know why people keep on making the same mistake again and again. Maybe it's because they want to have "ea" in both words. Or maybe they just don't know the difference.

I've seen this mistake so many times that I hope I won't have to see it again anytime soon.

Commercial-ized

When youtube was introduced a few years back, I found myself watching less and less television and more and more youtube. One of the reasons was the fact that I could watch it anytime I wanted. Another reason was the fact that youtube didn't have commercials.

Then, a year ago, youtube started showing commercials. The good thing is that it usually came before the actual show, so it was easy to skip.

But recently, I noticed that youtube is starting to put commercials within the actual program! For example, I was watching an episode of Project Runway season 12, and 21 minutes into the show, this ad suddenly interrupted the program and started playing!

Now, one of the major reasons why I watch youtube instead of TV just turned to be a non-reason. Bring the old - and commercial free - youtube back! Please!

The river is drying up.

When I found out last April that River Island was opening in Manila, I was stoked!

Now, it's been 6 months and they haven't opened any of their stores yet. The one in SM Aura was supposed to open in June, but their signage now says that they'll open in November.

Gosh. It's taking them such a long time to open that I feel my interest in the store slowly drying up.

No free ride

The past few years, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the MRT gave away free rides during Independence Day. It happened last year, in 2008, in 2009, and I remember writing about the  pleasant experience.

Yesterday was Independence day, and I took an MRT ride from Shangri-La Plaza to Cubao. I thought there would be free rides just like the previous years, but no. There were no surprise freebies from our train system this year.

It must be some cost-cutting initiative.

Word of the Day

My students and I were discussing the concept of Simbang Gabi in class when one of them uttered a word that was actually new to my ear.

She said: "These days, people don't go to the Simbang Gabi. They go to the Simbang Gababes."

"Simbang Gababes," now that's a new word.

It apparently refers to young folks who go to the midnight mass and turn it into a soiree, making it a venue to meet potential girlfriends and boyfriends.

Ah, kids...
