FMM: In Wolf's clothing

With such a busy week - and a working weekend in the offing - I'm looking for something happy and boppy to listen to this Friday.

Times like these, I gravitate towards the new wave sounds of the 80s and 90s. Just like this infectious ditty from Peter Wolf.

"Lights Out" was one of their hits and was a mainstay in a lot of discos (yes, discos) in the 90s. And given how catchy it is, I can't blame them.

FMM: Cat-sing up

Since Jeremy Scott is making a line of clothes for dogs, I'm doing something cat-related for today's Friday Magic Madness.

Real Life was a big name in New Wave back in the 80s, and one of their iconic songs was "Catch me I'm falling." I remember my brothers listening to this song and watching the music video, mainly because it was the cool thing to do back then.

So, from "Cats" to "Catch," I now bring you today's Friday Magic Madness song.

FMM: Tuesday Feels

Since new wave is making a comeback in Manila, today's Friday Magic Madness is an oldie-but-goodie new wave song.

It's a song by a group called "'Til Tuesday." If the name doesn't ring a bell, it's because they weren't one of those massive new wave bands. They were more the quiet types, but never fail to come up with great songs.

Just like my favorite song from the group, "Voices Carry."



This will be enough to carry me through the weekend.

FMM: Something New

In the advertising biz, we're always looking for something new. That's one of the sure ways of standing out in the crowd.

It's something we've been in the look out of late.

So, since it's Friday Magic Madness day, we thought, why not have a little new wave?

Not just new wave, but a New Life!

I'm in a new wave mood, so I put on a little Madness and played one of my favorite 80s ditties.

FMM: Maneuvering

It's another wave of New Wave this Friday!

And one of the most popular New Wave bands from the 80s is OMD, or Orchestral Manoeuvres

 in the Dark. (As a kid, I thought their name was so wickedly cool!)
Now if you're a kid from the 80s, then you probably danced to "So In Love."

You probably fell in love after hearing "If You Leave," too.



After hearing these songs, I began to wonder whether OMD ever performed in Manila. Heck, if they find themselves in Philippine soil anytime soon, I'm maneuvering to the front of the line!

FMM: What the Flock?

It's Friday, and I woke up with a craving for New Wave.

And when you crave for new wave, you go to Flock of Seagulls!

FMM: Ride the wave!

Tomorrow's lesson is about jingle writing and musical genres. While writing down the more popular genres that have been popular among listeners, I suddenly missed the genre that was a big hit during my high school days.

New Wave!
