FMM: Stuck in the Island

Today's Friday Magic Madness song needs no introduction:

Yes, it was inspired by yesterday's post.

"Islands in the Stream" is such a feel-good song, masterfully sung by the King and Queen of Country - Kenny and Dolly.

This song is definitely stuck in my head.

FMM: Riding with Carnes

On the Grab ride home yesterday, the driver's radio station was playing old songs.

This made it an enjoyable ride. After all, I'm a huge fan of songs from the 60s to the 90s.

One particular song hit me. And it's the song for today's Friday Magic Madness.

"What about me?" is one of the few songs that have a trio of singers, singing individual parts. This was sung by Kim Carnes, Kenny Rogers and James Ingram.

The reason why this is a memorable song? I've performed this song for a large audience.

It was back in high school, and the school's glee club was looking for someone to perform for a school event. Our adviser - Mr. Ortega - picked me and 2 other members, and asked us to represent the club in the program.

Can't remember how, but we pulled this song off.

And that is what that was all about.

A favorite, through the years

Yesterday, my Friday Magic Madness post was about the classic 80s song: "We are the World" by USA for Africa.

Today, I read that one of my favourite singers - one who was also part of USA for Africa - just passed away. That singer was the King of Country Music, Kenny Rogers.

He's one of the American singers that I listened to as a kid, thanks to Dad's cassette tape collection. My weekends and study times were usually accompanied by his classic songs: "Lady," "We got tonight," "She believes in me," and his iconic duet with Dolly Parton, "Island in the Stream."

Of course, we cannot forget "Through the Years." It's one of my all-time favourite songs in the whole wide universe.

So, in honor of Kenny Rogers, let me quote this iconic song of his:

"Through the years,
you've never let me down,
you turned my life around,
the sweetest days I found right here with you.

Through the years,
I've never been afraid,
I loved the life we've made.
And I'm so glad I've stayed,
right here with you,
Through the years.

Through the years,
when everything went wrong,
together we were strong.
I know that I belong right here with you.

Through the years,
I never had a doubt,
We'd always work things out,
I've learned what life's about,
by Loving you,
Through the years."

You will be missed, Kenny Rogers.

Sit down, price up

Being a semi-regular Kenny Rogers diner, (they have an awesome Cold Chunky Tuna sandwich!) I can pretty much track the changes that are happening in store. From changes in the menu to little tweaks in their decor - I've seen them all.

But their latest change, which happened within a week, is the most surprising of all.

I had lunch at their Robinson's Galleria branch and found out that they've reinvented themselves into a sit-down type of restaurant. Now, you have to wait for you to be seated, they take your orders at your table, and you get your bill that way as well. It's a far cry from the fast-food style, no-frills Kenny Rogers I've known.

The most shocking change, though, is their price. Heck, their prices have also gone up to sit-down restaurant levels. The Cold Chunky Tuna combo that I used to buy for P125.00 is now P160.00! The Spicy Hot Roast set that I ordered last week for P199 is now P225!

I didn't know sitting down could be this expensive!
